Credit Card mentality...buy now, pay later!?

When will we learn! Our politicians (almost all of them, it seems) mentality:...print and inject money into system to "fix now" (at least to make our banker friends and corp execs whole and make many citizens feel good because we're doing something, right or wrong)... and future Americans, our children (that we politicians don't have to worry about voting for us when we're old and gone) will pay with inflation and lowered quality of life (while we politicians draw our govm't pensions, capitalize on our corporate and political connections and live the good life). What am I missing with this senario? Sorry, I must have misplaced my rose-colored glasses...or was that my blinders?...

This is the typical governmental solution to problems. Just throw more money at it. I mean just look at the state of education system. Ultimately most politicians just concern themselves with getting re-elected. There is a real disconnect between Washington and the man in the streets. We saw this on the immigration bill they tried to sneak through. We saw it on the first bailout package passed under Bush. We are now seeing it again with this bailout package. However, I would submit that the Republicans are at least trying to make some type of stand against it. I will however concede that their opposition is more politically motivated than fiscal. My thought though is that I will take them doing the right thing even if it might be for the wrong reasons.

How to build my credit score without a card?

Ok, so here's my deal: I've had one credit card (GE Money Bank via PayPal Credit) for about 2 years and was occasionally late (delinquent) on my monthly payments, until I was eventually well above my credit limit. I saved up, and I managed to finally pay off the entire card with a single large payment. After it was payed off, the account was closed from further access, so I now have 0 lines of credit.
I have applied for a new line of credit 3 separate times over the span of the last few months, and have gotten rejected every time. In my experience, loans are even tougher to get than credit cards, so how can I build my credit without having any lines of credit?

Hi

There is still a credit card you can get that requires no credit checks - they are called secured credit cards. A ton of credit card companies offer this, but there are a few things you need to look into first. Mostly things like interest rates, annual fees, application fees, which credit reporting bureaus they report too, and so on...

Secured cards are just like any other credit card except you need to deposit money with the issuer's bank and the bank uses your deposit as collateral. Whatever amount you deposit will be equal to your credit limit, for example, you deposit $500, you would have a credit card limit of $500.

One of the most important things to look for is whether or not the secured credit card company reports your payments to the bureau(s) and which reporting agencies they report to, preferably the 4 major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, Transunion, Innovis).

As you make on time payments, keep your balances low (under 10% of your limit), never go over your limit, and so on, you will build good credit, eventually you will be able to obtain unsecured cards.

I should also note, the Fico scoring system likes to see at least 2 open, current, revolving accounts (credit cards), so work on getting 2 secured cards if you can. Several banks will accept as low as $200 to open a secured card.

Check out the sources I left for more information. Hope this helps and best of luck!

GOOGLE ANALYTICS: Track javascript button click?

I simply want to track when people click the "Buy & Download Now" button on my website. The code for this button is:

Add to Cart

The button causes a popup shopping cart and I want to track this. The site is www.TheRussianTiger.com

Help would be GREALY appreciated. :)

There is a piece of analytics javascript (pageTracker._trackPageview) you need to add to your onclick event. It is okay to have two pieces of javascript running on your onclick event.

I think these steps will accomplish what you want.

1. Edit the page that has the button on it. You probably currently have a clump of analytics code at the bottom of your page, before . It's the code that looks like this:

You need to select all those lines in your page, and move them to the top of the body, right after .

That way, analytics will log the visit to the page before it logs the click of the button.

2. Now, to log a button click, change the on-click section of your hyperlink so it's like this:

on-click="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/button/addtocart'); java-script:return EJEJC_lc(this);">

3. It can take google 24 hours to start showing these pseudo pageviews in your analytics. Look for "/button/addtocart" to show up as content, just like any other page.

I chose "/button/addtocart" arbitrarily. "Button" allows for grouping, in case later you have other buttons you want to track. You could just make it "/addtocart" if you want, or "addtocart.html". Whatever text you want.

...Darn it. Yahoo Answers is truncating the code in the middle. That section at the end of invoking the first javascript is supposed to end with a semi-colon, and then the start of the second javascript. It should look like this:

('/button/addtocart'); java-script:return

...Good luck!

Do we still need a 10-20% down payment?

I have been renting for two years and have decided to buy the home. My landlord told me to tell the bank/lender I have given him $10,000. We have paid $12,000 in rent. How does this work? Do I just tell the bank we have given this money as a down payment? Logically, I know the process is much more complicated than that. I am just confused b/c loan apps ask how much you "have" for a down payment. Right now we only have $3,000 to apply toward a DP. A 20% down payment on this home would be $10,000. Applying for a $0 down pmt./high interest, high monthly pmt. loan is not an option. I will only buy if we have a good down pmt. If there is anyone with real estate experience with this type of situation any advice is appreciated.
Also, I don't know how relevant this is but...
Our credit is good, not great.
Our landlords are really great.
We have decreased our debt to ~$3,000. It should be completely eliminated in 4 months.

it sounds to me like your landlord is willing to apply $10,000 of the rent you have paid toward the purchase price, which is legal. You tell your bank that $10,000 down has already been paid direct to the owner, and they will vouch for that.

Should I buy a Microsoft Zune or a Creative ZenVision?

I purchased a Creative Zen Micro in June 2005 and absolutely loved it- until it unexpectedly froze in September. I had to send the my Zen back to the company (even though it was covered under the 1 year warranty, I had to pay $30 handling fees). Two months later, I got it back and had to reload everything. Then it broke a second time in July 2006- entirely unexpected since had been handling it gently after the first incident. I had to mail it back, it was the same thing( the warranty was extended for the two months they fixed it before). I got it back, and, in September, it froze again, but this time my warranty was up. Now I need a new mp3 player. I don't like the ipods. The Zune appeals to me but I can't help being attracted to the ZenVision.Based on my past experiences, I don't trust Creative. Has anyone had problems like I had with the ZenMicro with the ZenVision? Should I give Creative another chance or go with the Zune even though I read reviews that said the Vision was better?

currently owning and LOVING my vision M, 60 gig model. its got the best screen on the market right now, support for a lot of video formats, amazing sound output.

zune is just like ipod and songs purchased from zune store will only work on the zune just like itunes only locks you into the ipod. microsoft dropped their own playsforsure format for a zune only drm format, while the zen still supports playsforsure. and of couse it plays wma, mp3, and wav files. check out the link below thats an excellent side by side comparion of ipod vs zen vs zune, and sadly, it seems that even the ipod is better then the zune.

p.s. if anyone knows where i can get hotel n plane ticket to jamaica at a super good price please don't hesitate to help me out
thankz all of u for your time
also i don't wanna run my credit so many times to i need one really really good one

Unfortunately since you don't want your credit run, it will be hard to get an unsecured credit card, especially with the minimum limit you need. Orchard Bank is a good credit card to go if you want to rebuild your credit or have a chance to get a nice limit. I would recommend paying them by Money order versus money taken out your account. You may send them a check but it seems it takes time for them to remove it from your bank. You sound like me that when you send money, you want it immediately posted. The thing I did like about orchard bank was that they gave me a questionnaire before running my credit which allowed me to get a better card than what I was applying for. I've listed some links for credit help, especially the one that provides the credit scores. Have you got your credit score this year? If not, do that. To get your credit report would be free and the fee for the credit score is usually a low fee. The major three usually charge under $10 to add your score to your report. Have a safe trip and good luck on getting a CC that supports you! Oh, I also put links for inexpensive trip sites that gives you low prices. Shop around because if you belong to AAA, are a student, you may have additional discounts available to you. Be sure to read all fine especially to cancellation policies. Sometimes because you are getting a low price, it may be non-refundable. If you can get a Discover Card, that would be great because they are of the best companies for giving you nice limits if you qualify.
