Is the Philips Blu Ray player model BDP7200 upgradable to Profile 2.0?

Basically, that's all I am asking for. I am considering purchasing the bundle (42 inch LCD with 120Hz 1080p tv Philips brand with an included blu ray player model BDP7200), but I read online its profile 1.1 compliant, and i know theyre up to 2.0 now (or later?), so i was wondering if its worth it to get the bundle for $999.99 otherwise ill just keep what I have (i have a 90 day exchange plan). i paid $999.99 for another tv, but i like the 120Hz feature and the included blu ray player but it wont be worth getting if its not profile 2.0 upgradable cuz then some movies may not work..........

Others have generally answered your question (The Phillips BDP7200 is Profile 1.1 and since it has no LAN port will never be Profile 2.0). Note unlike some have claimed firmware updates can still be done via an update DVD/CD though.

The question you really need to ask is whether Profile 2.0 capability is important to you. Personally, I just bought a Pioneer Profile 1.1 player because of it's audio/video capabilities in the full realization that it won't support Live View. But then I have no interest in accessing online extras or chatting with others while watching the movie.

So, I suggest you consider whether you need Profile 2.0 compliance, and -- more important -- whether you want HD audio to be decoded in the player or in your receiver. The Phillips doesn't have onboard decoders for HD audio so if you want to be able to access HD audio on Blu-ray you will need an external AV Receiver with decoders built in (most newer receivers have this capability). If you don't plan to use a receiver (i.e. connect direct to a TV) you won't miss HD audio.

The link is to a review of the Phillips BDP7200. It's not a stellar review, but it's not a bad player if you primarily want to watch Nlu-ray movies and on-disk extras. It isn't worth anywhere near the MSRP, but as part of a package it may be.

One final consideration is whether the Phillips will play (or firmware updates will be available to allow it to play) new profile 2.0 enabled (or should I say "encumbered") disks. That I can't comment on. This isn't a huge deal, BUT there are disks that some older un-patched players (Samsung seems to be particularly problematic brand in this respect) don't play, so it's not a non-issue. Phillips USA list one firmware update dated April 24, 2008. The lack of further updates could mean there have not been any problems or lack of support. Finally, note that even a Profile 2.0 player may not be imune to problematic disks .... so you takes your chances either way.

Personally, if I could feel I was paying no more than $100-$150 for the player as part of the package with a TV I liked (That's critical) I'd consider it a good deal. Remember you can always get a better player in a year or so when prices have come down (and they will) ... and retire the Phillips to a bedroom/den or give as a gift to parents/relatives.

What Are Some Good/Bad Things About Buying A Salvaged Car?

My friend has been wanting to buy a car for some time now and last week came across a salvaged Benz(A car i would never buy unless it was the SLR Mclaren) and the car has water damage but only to the floor/seats, besides that the car runs and drives never been in a crash it has a $8000 price tag for an 2009 C300. Truly I don't trust cars like this & really one that's been knee deep in water, but I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on salvaged cars, & would you ever buy one? (Also I know most Salvaged Cars have Clean Titles/History but I'm asking about cars that don't)

The very definition of the term 'salvaged' means 'to save from loss or destruction'. In other words, the damage to the car exceeded its worth. That is saying a lot for this car you are interested in.

There is nothing good about a salvaged vehicle except the price, but you have to remember that you get what you pay for.

Bad things about a salvaged vehicle:
1) It will be near impossible to get financing to buy.
2) Most insurance companies will not offer comprehensive or collision coverage
3) You have no warranty (voided by salvaged title)
4) Salvaged cars typically have at least 2-3 times more mechanical problems.
5) They are sometimes not safe as they no longer meet the required US safety requirements.

I would never buy a salvaged vehicle no matter how good the deal. They are a money pit and a death trap.

Is it good to have a high credit limit to build credit?

I am 23 and looking to purchase a home exactly one year from now. For the past two or so years I've had all utility bills for a normal home in my name. Not once has any one of them been paid late. I've also had a credit card with Discover for about 3 years and I have a Lenscrafters credit card that was used once and then paid in full. Again, absolutely no late payments, although the most I've ever had charged on the Discover card was about 700 dollars, which was paid at the end of 2 months.

Actually, you DO want a higher limit on the cards that you use often. Close any accounts you never use. And keep any accounts that have a longtime standing.

When credit companies assess your credit score, one of the ways they do this is by the equation:

monthly credit used divided by total available credit.

They do not like to see you using 40-50% of your available credit. In other words, the lower that percentage the better.

If you have a good handle on your bills, by all means ask for a credit increase. For example, if you are charging $300 a month with a $1500 limit, you are using 20% of your credit per month. If you up that limit to $3000 you are only using 10% of your credit per month which is better in the eyes of the credit companies.
