Employee to pay restitution for giving discounts??
My fiance was fired by Wilson's Leather after they claimed an audit revealed that he was giving to many discounts to customers. Upon being fired, $400 was taken out of his paycheck after he admitted he gave discounts. Now, three months later, he gets a call from someone saying he owes Wilson's Leather restitution in the amount of $12,000 and they gave him a file number and said they would send him the paperwork. I don't understand why this is happening, he didn't steal anything and it's not like he was standing at the door giving leather jackets away for free. He was a manager and he gave discounts for damaged merchandise and to meet competitor's prices. They told him when he started that he as the manager had the right to give discounts where he saw it fit. Apparently they have evidence of multiple transactions for less than the ticket price-but why didn't they step in right away and give him a warning? Why watch it all add up and then demand restitution? Advice? Can we fight this??
Absolutely fight it. If he didn't steal and he was given discretion to allow discounts, then they can't demand restitution. Also, they can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was the one giving the discounts. It could be a machine error, it could be another employee using his login. Get an attorney involved... they'll write a few nasty letters and Wilson's can find someone else to cover their deficit.
The money taken from his previous pay was illegal as well. Even if he had stolen something, they can't just take his pay away. There's a protocol for these things... he needs to get some help.
I recently sold my iphone on ebay and the buyer sent a payment of $620 through paypal. Once I had received the payment, I paid for what I sold my iphone to pay for. Suddenly a few days later the buyer pulls a reversal on me, the reason being "an unauthorized charge". I did not have my say in this dispute at all, luckily I have yet to fly back home and ship the iphone. I now have a negative paypal balance, and all my payments are on hold. If I were to bring my balance back to 0, would my sellers receive their payments? Also, my account is locked and I am reluctant to release so much personal information to unlock it, is there anything I can do? Can I even receive payments?
If you have payments scheduled to go out, those will not go through until you have enough balance to cover the payments. For example if you have a pending $25 payment, that payment will not go out until you have $25 in your PayPal Account. You still will be able to receive payments, but have no access to them until you get into a positive balance, and only then up to the positive balance.
Now, as for the "reversal", it sounds as if the buyer may have been expecting the phone sooner. You said it was a "few days later" before they did the reversal. You also appear to be out of town because you said you have not even flown back home to be able to ship it.
Did you tell him when you would ship it? Did you communicate with the buyer at all? I am not saying this is what happened, but there is a lot of Fraud on Ebay and for $620 I would hope that a person would not hold on to the item for several days without notifying me first. This may be the reason PayPal automatically reversed the charges without hearing your side first.
You need to talk to the Buyer and PayPal to get this resolved.

and never gave me a specific reason...i never got any paper that said i was being fired for theft...
so i get unemployment checks and now circuit city is appealing it...
is there a way i can beat this...and possibly not have to pay back the money i was given?
frankly you sound pretty shady to me.
however, if they do not have proof, then you will probably win. do they have proof? only you know.
were you charged? were you convicted of this crime? did they show you the evidence? or did someone just say "he did it" without evidence.
I would just go to the trial if you really are innocent and they probably will not show up if they have no evidence.
a lot of employers just appeal for the heck of it hoping you won't show up.
go and say I didn't do it. If they do have evidence, you might get convicted? I am not sure.

trouble with inserting PayPal 'buy now' and 'add to cart' buttons into my website?
i'm no PC genius, keep in mind.
ok, so after copy/paste the HTML of the buttons into my site, i hit 'publish' and no changes are made. they arent there. i have tried different buttons from different button generators. nothing. with WordPress blogs, while editing you can view HTML or Visual. when i view the Visual, i SEE the buttons. there they are. but in the Post Preview and final publish they arent there.
any ideas?
