if our apt flooded from the toilet,should the apt pay us for some things that were damaged like mattres etc?

our apt got flooded wit water coming from the toilet.i live in a fourplex and same thing happend to my neighbors,it happened thrice in november,everytime the apt gets flooded we always report it to the manager,they say they will fix it the first time then the second,the third time it happened it was way worse,the water reached our bedroom and since i sleep on matress only,my mattress got wet,my roommate who sleep off the floor got his foam wet,we also bought new bath rugs everytime after it gets flood,since it happend thrice,we threw several rugs already since its nasty to keep them,also we used our towels and blankets to absorb the water and now they are all thrown in trash, plus all the sacrifice of sleeping while smelling bad odor from water.so after the health dept got it fixed i went ot the apt office to ask if i can get some form of credit for all the stuff we had to buy and dispose later on, they said no since i shud have rent insurance,my point is all was their fault not mine

No luck. You should have renter's insurance...the land lord is only responsible for making sure that stuff works. You using your towels to clean the mess isn't the landlord's problem - you could have just tossed them in the washing machine. Having to sleep while smelling bad odor is not something the land lord would be able to compensate.

However, if the toilet keeps flooding, your landlord is responsible to look at it and get a plumber. If he hasn't then he may be responsible.

However, I wouldn't make a tizzy about the towels, because when it comes time to move, he might retaliate and be a jerk about giving you your full deposit back.

Demand a plumber, and if he doesn't follow through, I suggest moving...and buying renter's insurance.

(Really, in my old apartment we had water heaters. If the water heater in the unit above us froze/burst and water started leaking through into our unit, then we would get no compensation for damages to our unit without insurance. So, if you have valuables, then I recommend the insurance.)

hello, i am 19 and just made a bobo on my lowes credit card. I bought a lawn mower and had that 0% interest for 12 months, also i dont have any type of required payment during the 12 months. however last month i let my mom buy a steam cleaning vacuum on my card, i was under the impression that she was going to write a check for, because i normally just pay her cash and she writes a check to my credit cards for me. I know kinda immature, but im only 19 and live at home so if you are going to bash me dont answer. I guess she forgot to pay off the full amount and i just gave her 20 bucks to write towards lowes, and she did, however she didnt pay off the steam cleaner, and since she didnt I actually had a minimum payment since purchasing that. i just got my bill in and lowes hit me with a late fee, can i just get it waived, or what should i do?

You should pay the late fee. Making an honest mistake isn't immature, but trying to get out of taking responsibility for it would be.

You have to watch credit card statements like a hawk. Those 0% offers can be a good thing to take advantage of, but you have to pay close attention or you can lose anything you may have gained just like that.

Which is better, Winzip 12 or Winrar (latest)?

Hello, I was wondering which should I buy. I have been using winrar up to this point, and was pretty happy with it. But now that Winzip has a lossless compression for jpegs, I am wondering if it is worth a purchase. Personally I do not deal that much with jpegs, as I shoot RAW, and when I send photos, I usually just upload them to flickr or smugmug. Still that feature made me look twice.

A book club is trying to charge me for books I never received. Is this legal?

I was a member of a book club six years ago. Yesterday I received a bill for $110 from a debt collector saying they have purchased the account from the book club and are attempting to collect. Also, if I pay, I will be able to purchase books again from this club. On the bill it states the money owing is for books that I didn't order but had agreed to purchase by becoming a member. So, I didn't order any books and I didn't receive any books. Is it legal for them to bill me over six years later for product I never ordered? I also think it is really the book club posing as a debt collector because they offered me a 20% discount if I pay now and upon payment in full I can order books again. Sounds kind of fishy to me.

Usually when you sign up with a book club you have a minimum requirement of books that you have to buy at full price with in the time limit they set up ..usually 1 or 2 years. That might be what the charge is,and if it is then you will have signed the agreement if you joined. You might want to double check that and make sure.Even if you didn't order the books,if your time limit is up and you didn't fulfill your contract,they can charge you the price of the amount of books you were supposed to order.

Can I just download DirectX 11 or 10 for free?

So I have DirectX 9.0c, and I really wanted better graphics. Problem is, I have an old computer. I don't know what I have now, hell, even if I have one, and really don't want to risk losing what I have. I've put in quite a bit of money into this old eMachines T2890 I found in my garage a while back, and I am now close to the point where it would have been cheaper just to buy a brand new computer. The graphics card I have now seems to be OK, again I have 9.0c, but I always want to make what I have better (obviously) for little money. So:

1) Unless your graphics card has been manufactured in the last 4 years, it will not support DirectX 10. DirectX 11 came out in October, so it is very likely to be. Another thing is that DirectX 10 and 11 are only compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7, so you will need one of those operating systems.

about how directly after high school i was going to college for four years to study criminal justice. I even knew what college and everything. Then later i started thinking maybe i'd do the 2 year college associates degree. I'm making a 3.0 GPA, But now I'm wondering if i want to go to college and instead join the military. I still want to be a police officer but i just don't know what i want to do with my life for the next 4 years after high school. Is it even worth it going to college now in days because of the workplace's wanting to pay worker's less? What should i do.
